| 在历时二十八年的植物考察生涯中,乔治·福雷斯特曾7次来华,为西方园林和植物研究机构采集、引种了大量的动、植物材料,在他所采集的中国杜鹃花标本中,曾被有关研究者作为新种描述的名称多达400余个,至今仍有150多种为众多研究者所接受。福雷斯特的采集是杜鹃花属分类和区系研究中非常重要的素材。 |

| Abstract: |
| From the first time he travelled to China in 1904 until his untimely death in Yunnan in 1932,George Forrest made a total of seven trips plant hunting in the mountains of China. He collected large numbers of hitherto unknown species,in living and herbarium specimens,for introduction to the western world. His collections included more than 400 Rhododendrons new to the science of the day. Even now,after all the advances in taxonomy,over 150 of those named species are accepted,which must rank him among the most important plant collectors the world has ever seen. |
